About the Food and Exercise
About the Food
We are sensitive to each individual's food issues, and work slowly with residents who are afraid of food. Our residents are never forced to eat any particular food. Instead they are guided toward making food choices according to their bodies' needs and desires, rather than according to their old eating disordered voices.
As clients progress through our level system, they increasingly participate in dealing with food directly, like grocery shopping, meal planning, cooking, and serving others. Residents also attend weekly restaurant outings to help re-learn how to enjoy food and social experiences in a variety of settings.
About the Exercise
At Hope Grows, our residents learn to nurture their bodies and spirits through loving exercise. Professional Yoga instructors help residents learn to treat their bodies, minds and spirits well through exercise. Residents take walks outside while experiencing their spiritual selves in communion with nature, and engage in more vigorous group exercise through a variety of activities to relieve stress and learn to appreciate their bodies. Our goal is to foster in our residents a new respectful relationship between their bodies and exercise.
